Trump Reinforces Love for Oil by Considering Exxon CEO as Secretary of State

Climate Change Denial Will Now be Introduced to Foreign Policy

Trump is expected to announce the Oil Tycoon Rex Tillerson as his Secretary of State. Tillerson is a life-long employee of the oil company with no political experience. He does however have significant business relationships abroad including strong interests with Vladimir Putin.

His relationship with the Russian head of state helped him land multiple contracts for joint exploration and production of oil. One such contract is to drill in the Arctic sea and is expected to worth up to $300 billion. That particular agreement has been halted due to sanctions imposed on Russia. Trump’s appointment of Tillerson will likely influence the future lifting of those sanctions.

History of Environmental Disaster

Tillerson is a fellow climate change denier along with the president elect, department of energy head, and new head of the EPA. Further, the Exxon CEO has been under investigation by the New York Attorney General (along with other states) for hiding and obscuring company data that supports the evidence that climate change has been influenced by human actions.

His leadership was able to block the appointment of an environmental liaison to join the Exxon board of directors just last year.

Tillerson is also a staunch opponent to alternative or sustainable energy solutions. When questioned on his interest to pursue alternative energy solutions he responded with the following:

“The reality is there is no alternative energy source known on the planet or available to us today.” – Rex Tillerson

Tillerson’s official announcement is expected in the coming days.
